london modular alliance is the raw and unpredictable music project from the uk’s best known, dedicated modular synth shop london modular. its members simon lynch, phil ventre and gavin pykerman met through a shared passion in modular synthesisers. impromptu gatherings and jams soon turned into live performances at clubs, festivals and museums. from the hushed environs of the tate modern and v&a to vast sweatboxs such as fabric, bloc, freerotation, weather and berghain, london modular clearly have a flair for all things modular. this year sees a return to bloc weekender as well as new adventures at festivals such as dekmantel. they create an intense live show with a huge setup of self-assembled modular gear. every set starts with one small looping beginning – a patch – and is expanded into a deep sonic landscape. with the use of cables they build unexpected circuits and explore the power of pure electronic sounds without the use of a digital software infrastructure. no laptops, no button pushing, everything is created on the spot using modular synthesizers and is based on live improvisations. overall lma tries to keep its live sets in the dark: unrecorded, off the internet and only for those who are present in the moment. a clear break with the capture-all mentality of the internet age.

strut present an inspired new afro-electronic project for 2016, kondi band, a collaboration between sierra leonean kondi (thumb piano) player sorie kondi and us producer / dj chief boima, who himself has sierra leonean roots. the project was spawned after boima happened upon an online video of one of sories original tracks. sorie kondi is a blind musician with a will to thrive like no person i have met before, explains boima. my work with him began with a youtube link. i spotted the video for his track without money no family and was struck by his beautiful vocals and socially-conscious lyrics. these incredible melodies he was playing on his namesake thumb piano (the kondi) sealed the deal: i immediately decided to remix it.

l.m.y.e. (lend me your ears) are two bristol based friends who met via the idle hands record shop which is central to the city s burgeoning house scene. the pair combine their love for digging with a taste for the sound of classic 70 s and 80 s studio hardware.

gregory darsa aka point g aka dj gregory is a long-time galaxy traveler. during one of his journeys, he met cap n cabannon in a mercenary spacecraft, and as they were exchanging time travel techniques, they came out with the idea of creating a flat black hole able to achieve a 20 years trek in just a few minutes. so here we are: classics & unreleased jams, provides a high quality rush fuel that turns any space travel into an exhilarating time experience.

about a year ago nico stojan and acid pauli met at the studio to record some music. while doing so they discovered their common love for sample based production. so they were basically digging into old vinyls and eventually these three tracks came along. nothing more to say, but enjoy. call of the valley is the first release on the new label ouie: there has been a shift in this tiny piece of massive world and, like all other shifts, they are documented by those who were there. ouie is the label to do just that, created by the people who were there, making those shifts.

king ghazi is shadi khries and gilbert cohen. recorded in amman / may 2014. all the music presented here is original, and has been recorded in jordan in may 2014. this project was born when i met shadi in paris, at the percussion recording sessions for acid arab. from these sessions came the idea of&#8203,,,,,exploring local music styles on the verge of disappearing, in jordan and elsewhere in the middle east. it was also an opportunity for me to meet exceptional people and wonderful artists. for 15 days, we travelled through jordan, recording local musicians. here we hear osama al khairat aka abu sayah, an exiled syrian musician who plays the yarghoul (two flutes linked together by beeswax. one plays a drone, the other the corresponding range, all while blowing continuously). i want to specially thank shermine sawalha for allowing us to record in the living room of her parents house, as well as for coordinating the whole project. without her energy and patience, this record would not be in your hands today.

the deewees say: we met bolis in 2006 via myspace, and then later in real life when we toured asia. to escape the unbearable boredom of his native macao, bolis had decided to try his hand at making electronic music - inspired by a jean-michel jarre concert - and we have stayed in touch all these years. this record is the result of bolis visit to deewee in gent where he was enchanted by the world of analogue synths. we should also mention that bolis had a previous life as south east asias number 2 rubiks cube champion in 2003. think logic system and telex. sleeve design by ill studio.

traditional folk music from belgium, performed by swedish youngsters, met by art music with inspiration from the dj-culture. during the fall of 2015, guf (gävleborgs ungdoms folkband) released an album called guf4life where one of its songs got the dj & composer slim vic to react. the rain drenched sounds in the original composition worked as the fundament for two different musical journeys, signed by slim vic. part 1, is a varying composition that take the listener in and out of club music, ambient and the original tracks folk music. part 2, is a very dystopic world of sounds clearly on the border of art music.

aladdin is an atypical project at versatile, even for versatiles standards. in the base, the group consisted of nicolas ker singer, chaotic poet (known from poni hoax, paris, and his solo project yet to emerge) and gilbert cohen, boss of the label. the two met in the studio after breaking up with their then-girlfriends, resulting in an album filled with inner pressure.

crash course in science are a post punk band that formed in 1979 in philadelphia. the band members, dale feliciello, mallory yago and michael zodorozny, met while attending art school, where they began to experiment with crude electronics and off-beat lyrics. ccis avoided conventional instrumentation by using toy instruments and kitchen appliances to augment the distorted guitar, drums and synthesized beats.

damien lynch is a gentleman youve met in a past life. emerging with this debut, he steps nicely into a home at the esp institute. on side a, we‘re invited to the heights, a transcendent state where the negative space between the notes is equally as important as his lush instrumentation. damiens build-up of warm analogue machines twinkle and stab, leading way to a memorable hook, a squelching chord melody full of live nuance and energy. on side b, safe house plays out a similar theme in terms of arrangement, however, the ethereal space damien creates with the kalimba and driving arpeggios elevates us to an even higher plane, where his lead floats gracefully across the stereo spectrum, blanketing the fast-paced rhythms with a calming sense of purity. were serious when we say that these two songs will guide you toward enlightenment.

felix dickinson and jaime read met in brighton in 1995 when jaime was producing music for felix’s label ugly music. united by a love of chicago house music they held a 5 yr residency together in their hometown brighton. during this time jaime continued to make music for felix’s label as well as on his own label push 2 shove under the moniker lhas (the larry heard appreciation society). they soon found homes for their tracks on doc martin’s wax records, the belgian label eskimo and felix’s new label cynic music. more recently they have released tracks for tsuba and rong as lhas inc. there is a remix by neville watson. you may know him for his work with kink or his releases on clone and creme.

after a long time, rhadow and ntfo finally met in the studio again to work on the next edition of sintope s slagare series. but not just another regular session... the romanians went fully analogue for a couple of days without phones and computers - just drum machines and instruments. the result is slagare vol. 5 and comes with two tracks in a very limited vinyl only edition of just 300 copies. so better be quick.

2015 has been an outstanding year for django django with the release of their inventive second album ‘born under saturn’ which was met with rave reviews across the board. continuing that success, the band are ready to unleash four fresh mixes of the latest single ‘pause repeat’ which, as we’ve come to expect from django’s remix packages, are about as on point as it gets. the package starts out with an african beat paired with parisian synths on debruit’s indie dance mix. night slugs’ bok bok offers stop-start disco-infused euphoria. italy’s clap! clap! brings in off-kilter rhythms and infectious bubbles of analogue bass. finally one half of legendary glaswegian duo optimo, jd twitch, heads into deep, dubby and progressive techno territory.

tapan are from belgrade, hosts to disco not disco and now delivering two slow psychedelic techno bomb s to crimes of the future s letterbox. we first met nebjosa and the crew when we played at drug store in belgrade for them in early 2014. upon receiving these we knew they had crimes written all over them. on volumes we have two very special remixes of an already heavy original starting with willie burns taking them into the streets of manchester in the early 90 s and spending a night on at the hacienda with no thought of the gentrification approaching. drvcvltvre is the second provider and in true style switches out the lights and a spectre looms over the dancefloor dripping acid on the dancers below. the ep closes with whos there? featuring the brain melting guitars of vladimir djordjevic. quite a debut we think.

little is known about the london-based producer and dj who goes by the name of u, but that hasnt quelled praise from bedroom heads, industry tastemakers and big name press alike. audio arbiter george fitzgerald originally met u on a holiday in greece and immediately commissioned a handful of 12inches, each brimming with trademark mechanical bliss, like pleasure tinged with menace. u has since gone on to release for erol alkans phantasy sounds (both as a solo artist and in collaboration with babe, terror as btu), being given the nod by the guardian, mixmag and the line of best fit.
